How to Get Strong, Fast, and Ripped Like a Superhero

I’m incredibly excited to write this blog post—because writing it means that I finally get to tell you all about the new program I’ve been working on: the SUPERHERO Workout

And, as you might guess, it is very clearly intended to help you develop a SUPERHERO body.

Or, to quote the tagline, a body that can fight crime, thwart evil, and save the world (while looking AWESOME).

The SUPERHERO Workout is a 12-week program that will help you get stronger, add muscle, and burn fat, all with an athletic flair.  Having that type of body is not just attractive… it’s also trendy.

Huh?

Hey, hear me out.  You see, muscle is making a comeback It’s sort of back in vogue.  Oh, sure, I don’t think bodybuilders will become the season’s newest accessory, but there’s a definite shift in the public mind when it comes to muscle.

Like most trends, it all stars in Hollywood. The stars playing SUPERHEROES in films have gotten enormous amounts of media attention for their bodies.

What is it about the appearance of Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, or Chris Evans that gains so much attention? It’s not like people haven’t seen a leading role in shape before. But this is different.

There is a certain aesthetic that demands this kind of attention.

Women are no different.

Jessica Biel’s turn as a vampire hunting beautiful bad-ass in Blade required the hallmark body of a SUPERHERO.  Scarlett Johansson achieved the “look” for her role as Black Widow in Iron Man 2.  And, not surprisingly, after each of these films, these women were discussed more for their shape than for the parts they played.

Even though the appearance of men and women is radically different, there’s a certain “look” a body needs to have to portray a Hero who can kick-ass and save the day.

It starts with a body that is lean, dense, and powerfully athletic looking.

The “look” is comprised of strong, sexy shoulders and a wide back that compliments a lean waist, and streamlined but powerful looking arms. And, with above-average muscularity that’s obvious in clothing.

But even the muscle is different. It’s not awkward or out of place. This physique always looks good in clothes, whether in a suit or civvies, rather than portraying as awkward and bulky.

When you have the SUPERHERO body, you can don a comfortable-fitting shirt and everyone will know that they’re in great shape without looking like a show-off or a meathead. Or, if you prefer, dress your physique down and maintain your carefully guarded secret identity.

To the uninformed, the SUPERHERO‘s exterior can be either immediately impressive or completely unassuming (depending on wardrobe)—but always has a secret reserve of strength—the HERO is stronger and more powerful than most people that outweigh them by 20 or 30 pounds.

This is evident in the gym, a flag football game, or in the event of an emergency that calls upon physical prowess.  For women, it’s evident in the way you never need a man’s help, or how your husband asks YOU to open pickle jars.

Lastly, the body LOOKS as great as it performs. It’s the type of body that peers view with jealously and prospective hook-ups stare at with longing. He—or she—who possesses the powerful SUPERHERO body looks more like a (ahem) Roman statue, fitness model or an Olympic athlete than like a giant mass of muscle.

These are the true hallmarks of a physique inspired by HEROES; a physique that looks like it could have jumped right from the pages of a comic book—and it is from those books that we have drawn inspiration for the various phases of this training program.

THE OBLIGATORY Origin Story

OR, “Why We Decided to Write This Book”

The best way to start this is probably with the classic line, “it’s kind of a funny story…”  Well, in fact, it’s two stories that happen to be startlingly similar.

Growing up, we (that is, both of your humble authors) loved comics, and the heroes in them. In fact, we probably enjoyed them more than most other young boys, simply because of the location. Living in New York and reading comics, it’s hard NOT to picture yourself in them.  Whether you call it “Gotham” or “Metropolis” or “Star City” – NYC serves as the backdrop for nearly every major comic book character in the world.

Like most young boys, we both wished we could BE the SUPERHEROES from the comic books; the next best thing would be to look like them. As we got older and went through our respective physique transformations, both of us were able to draw constant inspiration from the bodies of the HEROES we admired.

Years later, SUPERHERO movies began to become popular, and since that time we’ve been able to draw a lot of professional inspiration from the transformations that actors have undergone to achieve “the look.”

And in some cases, we’ve been able to be a part of it.

It just so happens that ONE of your authors (Mr. Matt McGorry) has trained a number of actors for films, including a few SUPERHERO films.

Roman, on the other hand, has trained models who have gone on to serve as the body-image model for CGI characters in video games.

The decision to write the SUPERHERO Workout came very easily to us because we have first-hand experience building real superheroes.

Add in our geeky love of the subject matter, as well as our complete expertise with regard to training every type of person… this was a match made in heaven.

Because, the truth is, we KNOW.

We know what it takes to take a guy like Hugh Jackman from being “in good shape”… to absolutely and completely jacked, man

Superhero workout

Marvel Entertainment, 20th Century Fox

Add to that the frequency with which we get questions like the following:

  • “How do I get abs like Ryan Reynolds in Green Lantern?”
  • “How do I get a chest like Chris Evans in Captain America?”
  • “How do I get shoulders like Jessica Biel in Blade?”
  • “How do I get arms like Hugh Jackman in X-Men?” (have you seen Hugh’s triceps?)

…and it’s not hard to see why we thought there was a need for a program like this—especially when we’re sitting on the answers.

As mentioned, you won’t just look the part of a SUPERHERO.  Because of the structure, at the end of the program… you’ll be able to perform like one.  So get ready—because, in 12 short weeks, you’re going to have to stop yourself from fighting crime in your underwear.

And now for what I promised: a sample workout from the brand new program, the SUPERHERO Workout.

Phase OneWorkout Four
Complexes (Power)

Complex A – Barbell Complex for 4×6

Set-Up: Perform A1, A2, A3, and A4 sequentially, with NO rest between them; do not even set the barbell down between exercises.  Each exercise is to be performed for 6 reps. After A4, rest 120 seconds and repeat.  Select a weight that makes your weakest exercise challenging, but allows you to complete all reps on that exercise.

Recommended Starting Weights:
Men – 115-135 pounds
Women – 45-65 pounds

A1) Hack Squat (heels elevated) – Any squat variation works as a substitute.
A2) Push Press – Dumbbell press works if you have no barbell
A3) Bent Over Row (overhand grip) – Dumbbell row works if you have no barbell
A4) Barbell Romanian Deadlift – Dumbbell RDL works if you have no barbell
Perform this complex a total of 4 times; after your fourth one, rest 3-4 minutes and proceed to Complex B.

(for beginners or those without a barbell, substitute a dumbbell or kettlebell. For RDL’s feel free to do a bodyweight “reaching RDL” version).

I’m sorry I can’t reveal the rest of the workout, but give this a shot this week, and I KNOW you’ll pick up the program and get access to not only this workout, but all 24 of them!

And, if you get the Superhero Workout and it doesn’t work for you (which it will if you put in the work) then it’s free. There’s no risk to grab all 24 full body workouts geared to make you look like a superhero fit for the silver screen.

Okay, guys – sound off!  I want to hear who YOUR favorite SUPERHERO is and WHY.  If we get up to 100 comments, then FIVE lucky commenters will be RANDOMLY selected to win a FREE copy of the SUPERHERO Workout!

But, we have to get up to 100, or no dice! Have at it!

Favorite super hero for the longest time has been Doctor Strange. Love that a man can be number one in his field, lose the use of his hands (which made him his millions), give that up completely and learn a completely new craft, while using it to save the world. And I really enjoyed the new film too. But it's hard to discount the badassery of RDJ as Tony Stark.

Very aspirational training! Such program gives you high motivation and urges you to start exercising. I am a fitness fan myself and I know the power of motivation. When I am lacking energy or feel too tired to go to the gym I take Navy Seal Formula which makes me quickly recharged. Due to this supplement I never miss my workouts and never loose my motivation. As a result - I am constantly improving my shape.

no one ever answer my past question, so will try again, is this program wrong for me at 55 years old and a bad knee?

    June 7, 2012 at 8:37 am

Mate, just find a way to do the exercises without adding pressure to your knee! And obviously be conscious of your age/heart condition if you are pushing yourself beyond your limits and ESPECIALLY if you're going to take supplements etc.

I would have to say The Flash. He has a lightspeed metabolism and could beat Superman in a footrace. Legendary superhero with only one super power, besides Batman, the best example of making the most of what u have.

This workout sounds perfect for me. I'll have to look into it deeper when I'm not in the middle of my English class, haha. My favorite superheroes are Moon Knight from Marvel and the Flash from DC. Why? Because Moon Knight is like a more bad-ass, psychologically unhinged, indie Batman. Batman is cool, but he's like Batgod nowadays: Plans for everything, rarely beaten, etc. Moon Knight gets his ass handed to him weekly and still comes back. Love it. The Flash is just such a laid back and cool guy. Plus, he's ripped. He's got the ideal body for any man to want to emulate, especially when Francis Manapul does the art on the book.

Hey Roman, I have a question(s). Do your workouts easily fit into a gym atmosphere? By that I mean: 1) Do I need to have a mat with me that I can constantly drop down to do pushups on 2) Can I basically just use a barbell or set of dumbells and do all of the circuit exercises back to back without switching too much, like the weight and such. I should comment that the complex you laid down in the article completely fits at a gym. I can do all that in a squat rack or wherever I can get a barbell to myself. Essentially WIHTOUT equipment hopping, which is damn hard and annoying in a gym. **If you think the best answer for me is to buy the workout and if it doesn't work take the money back guarantee I certainly will** I've looked around for an answer to this, but obviously it's a tough question as there are variables in everyone's gym. For instance, mine doesn't do well at having an open matted area to do certain workouts, or high movement workouts (sprints mixed with lifting, or prowlers and such). Really enjoying learning from you and looking forward to the superhero workout, Jason

Mr. Incredible! I like his humanity when it comes to work, family & the fact that he lives in his present life while looking back at the "glory days"! I think most men look back at their youthful days & what could have been, not with regret of having a family of course, rather with a wondering heart as to whether they could have done or become so much more. He's my hero for having incredible strength & for pressing on w/ his family to make the most out of what he has. You know what they say......itself not how you start, but how you finish!

Magneto. He has the ability to manipulate the Earth's electromagnetic fields. The most common element make up is "metal" including the outer and inner core. Earth is at his disposal and can destroy any metal related mutants such as wolverine, Collossus, Iron-man, he can control Captain America's shield making him useless, squeeze Batman until he explodes with his own bat-belt, the list goes on. Oh, he can also fly, use forcefields, project objects, and wears a cool helmet to avoid dorky mutants like Professor Xavier. Just my two cents.

Superman is my favorite. There are many reasons, but possibly one of the more important reasons is because he lives his daily life as mild-mannered Clark Kent, the way most of us live our lives (or at least those of us who were your typical 98 lb. weaklings when growing up), allowing us to identify with him, but in the wink of an eye he can change (if he can find a phone booth) into a super hero who saves the day, giving us the impression that we too can transform ourselves and "save the world". Hopefully, this Super Hero Workout program is our path to that transformation!

Batman. Not only because he is the "badass normal", but also because the Villains in the series are brilliantly and creatively written. Most SH comics have only a few (like one or two) REALLY rememberable villains, but Batman is the exception to that, i find.

Batman, Unlike most superheroes, he does not possess any superpowers; he makes use of intellect, detective skills, science and technology, wealth, physical prowess, martial arts skills, an indomitable will, fear, and intimidation in his continuous war on crime. That's my Hero!

Rorschach from Watchmen. He's alienated from everyone including other superheroes. He's the only one who didn't stop fighting crime when masked vigilantes were outlawed. He doesn't have any "superpowers" per say but he is awesome nonetheless. He considers his mask his true face and his normal person the disguise. And above all e is uncompromising in his beliefs even to the point of death. Hardcore brah...

I am on day 2 of Final Phase Fat Loss--I went to it right after Nate Green's Hero Workout and lead-in Villain routine--and nonetheless, it is already kicking some ass. The lactic acid routine today was very humbling when I had to lift a whole lot less than normal, but I enjoyed the change up. Favorite superhero? Definitely Spider-Man because he is the most human to me. I also like Batman as a hero, but like the human part of Spider-Man more.

Superman. Boring, I know, but he is classic.

Luke "Powerman" Cage. He has strength, attitude, He has so much deep, dense, thick muscle bullets can't even penetrate him, much like your muscle building program when someone follows it to the "T". And Luke has quickness.

Rorschack. Or some spelling like that. The dude from Watchmen. Probably hate the guy if I actually met him (which would be talent on my part as he's a graphic novel character), but he's a cool character and has some great one-liners. Plus he doesn't look impressive at all but everyone is terrified of him.

Spiderman...He always does the right thing, but is never rewarded (I know most superheros have the same thing going for them, but I relate most with Peter Parker's situation). Not to mention he is the original parkour athlete.

I would have to go with Batman as the coolest. However my 4 yr old son totally disagrees, Spiderman all the way!!

Have to say Batman. Guy gave it all up and went to the underbelly of the world and came back in better mental and physical shape. That's the kind of results I want out of my workout program.

Roman, This might be your most popular posting yet! I think you’ve struck a chord. I wonder if there isn’t some hero inspired dedication to physical culture or personal fitness… That’s possibly worth a little study and a follow up post. I originally thought of Batman (“just a man, not a super man”) or Wolverine as favorites (if I had that skeleton and those healing powers!) but to tell the truth my favorite hero stories are much older. Orion, Hercules (Heracles), Achilles, Thor. It’s interesting that these mythological champions have helped elevate physical strength and prowess to god-like levels. And they have corollaries in each nation and culture. Fascinating really. I think there must be a correlation between the ideals of the hero story (strength, integrity, honor, etc) and the popular adoption of a physical ideal (power, athleticism or physical aesthetics). I think that may be why this post seems to have garnered so many comments; we seem to care deeply about heroes and keep them as our personal ideal. I guess it’s a cultural icon of sorts and another thing that binds us. I can see this program going viral. I can’t wait to give it a shot. Where can we sign up?

Great tips as always... my wife and I are big fans of your workouts. As for super heroe... The Greatest American Hero. Here is one guy who had no idea what he was doing and somehow miraculously saved the day (without instructions)... good theme song too!

John, Not sure if this is the best place to ask this question, but I didn't see another option so bear with me. I am thinking about ordering the SuperHero workout but would like to know if it is appropriate for my goals. First, I am female, in better shape than most, as I have been lifting off and on for years. I am 43, am lean and do the big lifts regularly - squats, DL's, Chest Presses, Chin ups, etc. Overall, I am happy with how i look but I would like more of that chiseled, dense, not puffy muscular look. Capped delts, defined quads, etc. Know what I mean? For the amount of weight I lift and the work i do in the gym, i feel like my arms should look much more chiseled (but they don't). Do you think this would be an appropriate program for me? Again, goals are lean, chiseled muscle that I can actually see, even if I am not flexing in the mirror. Think Jamie Eason...good example of overall, how I would like to look! Look forward to your reply :) Cass

I have to add another vote in for Batman. He's jacked and very strong but at the same time incredibly agile. And one of the most admirable things about him is his ability to really analyze situations and see what other heroes can't (usually because they are so reliant on their powers).

Remember: "That which does not kill us makes us stronger." (Nietzsche) With that in mind, my favorite superhero is Conan and my favorite superheroine is Zula. Watching Conan regain his skill with that huge two-handed sword after Valeria's sacrifice in "Conan, the Barbarian" is a always a great motivator when I hit the blahs (although I have to admit, sometimes, just listening to Brian Poledouris' soundtrack is enough to pump me up!) As for Zula, had Grace Jones been given more airtime with that wicked bo staff in "Conan, the Destroyer" it probably would have been as great hit as "Conan, the Barbarian"!

Just came back to read some of the other replies. It’s now over 300 & climbing, in no less than 24hrs! I sense there is going to be a lot of new Super Heroes running around by the end of the next twelve weeks!, lol

I'm with Justin...Heman - bad hair, awesome arms. Or Captain America. Gotta love a patriot, and I'm obsessed with historical information... he just fits the bill. Not so sure about the new C.A., but the origins, for sure. She-Ra for me, though:) Princess of Power? Uh huh that's right.

I'm currently doing XFLD AND IT'S WORKING. I have 3 more circuits to go, then I want to start building more muscle. Your new Super Hero program sounds like just the ticket!

Hi, It's quite difficult to choose my favourite super hero, they're all so cool ;) I did like the looks of the Spiderman though. But I also like Daredevil because he didn't let some minor handicap prevent him from being the hero that saves the day (and Ben Afflec did look hot, too ;)).

I love the move that Black Widow does in Iron Man 2, where she flips her legs around the guys neck and flings them to the ground. So wish I could do that. I would like to be the kind of girl that walks into a dark alley, but instead of well, whatever she opens a can of whoop ass. Like Gabrielle Anwar's character Fiona in Burn Notice.

My favorite is Heman. With his stunning physique and raw power he was easy to look up to as a kid. Plus if you look as good as Heman and walk around in a loin cloth carrying a battle axe and sword, you would have an easy time finding a date.

Hi Roman, I’ve been really looking forward to the release of the ‘Super Hero Workout’, I mean who doesn’t want to be a hero or have the physique of one For me I’ve always wanted to be Iron Man, although I must admit the body of Captain America would be a bonus. I would want to be Tony Stark because, although he is skilled at fighting, he uses his brain and technology to default the enemy. Tou don't always have to be a meethead to save the day. Plus his suit is just awesome and he works with some of the best looking ladies in the comic world. Black Widow hmmmm..... Good luck with the release Julian

  • Q Kaseman

Bugger, there are so many good ones, how to choose? I'm gonna have to go with Deadpool because he's a sarcastic mouthy twit and I find that funny. If he's too anti-hero, next would be Iron Man simply because I love the technology aspect of it.

Batman was always pretty badass to me. Never had any super powers, but was extraordinary with the resources he had (which was a lot with his riches). Nevertheless I think this workout program would be great to bring out the superhero in all of us

I have to say thor, just the shear size and mass of this super hero makes me want to get myself into that sort of shape. You have the mass but its not the overkill of a body builder type body.

My fave has always been Spiderman. He got into the role by accident, and used his power to right wrongs in memory of his Uncle Ben, not money or glory. He has a conscience, and good morals, and knows right from wrong, no matter how life has screwed him.

Buffy, because I grew up in the 70s where women could kick butt only to a point. I loved the irony regarding her tiny stature and diminutive name which belied the truth of her ferocity. And as the show went on, watching Buffy and her friends evolve from cute teens to darker and brooding adults was fantastic. My daughters have grown up watching the show and are now nearing their teens. I hope Buffy inspires them to be the powerful women I know they will be. To the poster who mentioned Linda Hamilton's arms, I met her at comic con last year and told her she had inspired me to workout to get those arms... and she said "I wish *I* still had Linda Hamilton arms."

Colossus. Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin. Especially as drawn and written by John Byrne and inked by Terry Austin. I'm the runt of the litter and always looked up to the big powerful guys. Peter intrigued me because of his quiet shy demeanor encased in this hard outer shell. The armor we wear, whether Colossus, Iron Man, Superman's cape, Batman's cowl - it's the same as the muscle we seek to grow to both help the world around us, as well as protect us from it (on whatever Yungian archetypal level you might want to consider. I've been intrigued by the concept of the "hero myth" for a long time now. From "The Herculoids" as a kid, to a comic book collection dating back to the mid-70s, to From Joseph Campbell's "The Hero with a Thousand Faces" and Carl Jung. That concept resides deep inside my psyche and informs my life.

Yo Roman Great blog as always and the workouts look sick. Fav superhero has to Wolverine, that guy is awesome and has a bad ass attitude to go with it!!

    July 19, 2011 at 7:31 am

  • Brian Foot

Ok Roman, when I was a kid I was equally fascinated with the Hulk. Thor and the Flash. Yes, opposite ends of the spectrum, imposing mass, mythology and blazing fast twitch. I wonder if you stirred them all together you ended up with Bruce Lee in his prime... functional, lean and powerful. Hmmm.

    July 19, 2011 at 7:29 am

  • Brian

You forgot the HULK! Gama radiation caused his transformation, but...if I could get cut that fast with a little lack of anger management that'd be AWESOME! The HULK is definately my pick, Mean, Green, Fight'n Machine and he can bench press a tank!

    July 19, 2011 at 7:17 am

I suppose my favorite SUPER Hero is Batman. Despite all gadgets he use, he is very good shape, he's very intelligent and of curse wealthy :).

    July 19, 2011 at 7:10 am

  • Jim

Nightwing aka Richard John "Dick" Grayson will always be my favorite superhero. He's got all of the training and ability that Batman has since he started his career as the original Robin but kept his humanity and sense of humor. He grew up learning from all the others and now is one of the most trusted and respected among them and can lead all of them when necessary.

i would say wolverine, the guy self heals at an incredible rate and has a metallic skeleton, pretty awesome. the workout looks great roman!

DEADPOOL! The merc with the mouth. Not the Fox (wolverine origin) Balls up! But Marvel’s completely insane, loud mouth, fun loving, womanizing, sadistic, scar faced, cancer ridden but never dying with a jacked up healing factor, teleporting, sword wielding, gun blasting, taco eating, occasional beer drinking, third wall breaking, anti hero! He wants to fit in with the rest of super hero gang but always goes over the top in an unconventional messed up kind of way, that disturbs the hell out of the cleaner cut Spandex Supers. But ultimately he always wins through in the end! Not that anyone notices or gives him credit were due! (Except, possibly Cable) Oh’ and he has a completely jacked Body! Glenn, Wanna be Super Hero

Gotta love Tony Stark/Iron Man for his attitude, cockinesss and sense of humour

    July 19, 2011 at 5:17 am

  • Richard

It's got to be Tony Stark (Iron Man) - the guy is so flawed it's brilliant. He's the kind of hero I can understand: talented and broken in equal measures, and rising to the challenge despite alcoholism.

    July 19, 2011 at 5:08 am

  • Jess

I looooove She-Hulk. I can be very impulsive, passionate and bad-tempered at times (Italian blood...!!) and sometimes I wish I could turn green and destroy everything, UahahHAHahah. -I'm violent in my head only, no worries...it helps me calm down :) - Also, she looks super hot and has gorgeous black long hair. ♥

    July 19, 2011 at 4:52 am

Definitely spiderman. He's lean, agile, and quick, and while his body may be smaller than some of the other super heroes, he still packs the same punch.

    July 19, 2011 at 4:52 am

Has to be Conan - a fictional character but based on possible reality rather than fantasy [just read about Ghengis Khan, Attila the Hun for example],

My favorite comic book hero is: Shang-Chi, Master of Kung Fu simply because he has the best physique of them all.

Well, for me it is the good old Arnie - believe or not. Yes, Arnold Schwarzenegger at his best times, being honored Mr.Olympia and shooting the Conan series....

I have always been fascinated with Super heroes and wouldn't mind to start looking like one! People are intrigued with Super heroes because not only do the possess super hero powers but because their physiques are off the chain. I would love to have pipes like Thor and a chest like the hulk :) If I am selected to for the winner I will make sure to put that bad boy to use! I am tired of programs that simply don't live up to the hype. There are ton of them out there. Please don't let us down!

Gotta be Johnny Storm - Fantastic 4. Don't know why but it's different ;)

    July 19, 2011 at 3:20 am

Iron Man. He's cool, mean but helpful and sensitive on the inside.

    July 19, 2011 at 3:19 am

  • VB

Wolverine. Just the thought of having claws and a steel structured body is awesome

    July 19, 2011 at 3:03 am

  • Adalbert

Conan the Barbarian and the man who played his role - Arnie the Greatest :) As a fictional character, the man who follows the path of steel and forges his body with the hard work and training to be as deadly as a sword. From barbarian to the king, following the path of sword. Qute different from today's corporate careers :P As toa female characters, Red Sonja, played by Brigitte Nielsen in the 1985 movie. The story of revenge and friendship, tenacity and love. I admired her excellent physique, remember, Jessica Biel was only 3 years old when this move was filmed :)

    July 19, 2011 at 2:53 am

  • Pats

Oh man, Batman, definitely Batman. He is for me THE BEST SUPER HERO. He doesn’t have any superpowers (unless you count being ridiculously rich and a babe magnet superpowers) so he only counts on his skills (and gadgets, but hey, no firearms which is plain cool). The dream to become him is at least somewhat achievable (unless you come from Krypton) He trained ridiculously hard to get where he is (we all can relate) to be “perfect”. And while we can’t all be Batman, we can at least work hard to get close. It’s not just bodybuilding anymore but being able to kick ass while being hot!

    July 19, 2011 at 2:28 am

  • Gareth

Hey roman, This workout sounds ideal for me and I would be interested in signing up for a copy!! If I could be a superhero I would opt for a few elements of all for their powers, but in relation to body of a superhero I would go for batman(batman begins) Looking forward to your release!! Stay lucky G

Do the Ghostbusters count? If not I guess I'd have to say Thor. I envy his physique and he had the privilege to make out with Natalie Portman! Gahhh

Spiderman. He has no real 'super powers', and outside of saving people leads a fairly normal life. Also no sidekick and nobody know who he is.

moter Terissa for sure.Phisically very frail.but strong of mind and heart. If you have a programme to make me like her sure i.ll buy it.

    July 19, 2011 at 1:38 am

  • Collin

Has to be Wolverine. Because he's not perfect. He's not this other-worldly, ideal, incorruptible demi-god, but a guy who, though haunted and prone to mistakes, still does what he can to do the right thing.

    July 19, 2011 at 1:37 am

  • Dan

Wow, this looks awesome! I'm currently on CB's Meathead program but you could steal me with this one. As for Superhero I can't say i really have a favourite. I like Wolverine because he does it his way and doesn't give a shit what people think, I also like Kick Ass because he knows he's not the tough guy with super powers but he's willing to get out and try help people anyway

    July 19, 2011 at 1:29 am

  • July

I like Batman. I know He is no "real" Superhero, he has no super powers. But he fight evil and uses his mind and equipment to do do this. He is cool!

Hey Roman did you notice that you have received at least double the amount of comments you were shooting for? How about double the chances of winning? You could start it off by giving me a copy of the Super Hero workout. Ha ha, seriously though. P.S. love your blog and the instruction you give. Thanks. One another note, I originally posted Wolverine as my fave superhero, but on second thought, I'm now thinking Hellboy! He goes around saving the world from the evils that we don't know exist. When things go bump in the night, he is what bumps back! Freaking AWESOME!

  • Juuso Korvola

Definetly super excited about this program, sounds almost too good to be true! As a kid I watched spiderman alot and felt like he was the coolest superhero ever. He's not too super-y like superman but still has something that makes him more than just a human. Dr.Manhattan form Watchmen is probably my favourite nowdays though, and he's like a Greek statue, naked.. and blue. PS. on the subject matter of superheroes, check out this new teaser trailer for The Dark Knight Rises; http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi3119422489/

Got to go with Spiderman. Have loved the comics since I was a kid. Love the way he wise-cracks his opponents, too.

    July 19, 2011 at 12:36 am

I think my favorite superhero is Spiderman. The reason being that he doesn't possess any amazing strength or shooting abilities, he is just one fast and smart creature.

  • preston s

I'm a huge fan of Batman due to the fact that he faced his fears to become Batman and also he has a sick costume and doesn't have any "real " super powers. All he used was the super hero workout which hopefully I can use to save Gotham and fight crime as well ;)

    July 19, 2011 at 12:31 am

Flash,he is super fast, athlete(show an go) like body and has a great physique, something i know that Roman never fails to deliver a great program, hoping that the super hero workout will give me both that attributes

Batman. He is the only super hero without powers. He uses his mind as his greatest weapon.

Wolverine... and actually not because of his physique believe it or not, nor his ability to heal himself or indestructable bones. Wolverine to me represents the ideal male - not afraid to get down and dirty, hard working, driven, a bit rough around the edges, takes no sh!t. He doesnt spend time in the bathroom putting gel in his hair, he doesnt care if his boots are dirty or clothes arent ironed. I guess he's the toally opposite of a suave superhero like Bruce Wayne or Clark Kent. My vote goes to Wolverine ;)

Spiderman! For some reason I like 'em a little geeky. He's strong and agile and doesn't feel the need to show it in regular daily life. He knows he's got "it" and doesn't need to flaunt it. Plus, swinging around through downtown skyscrapers on a string looks like a lot of fun.

First I have to say this is a really awesome concept for a workout. I mean really, who hasn't wanted to be a super hero? I have to give Batman some credit. Without any super powers or genetic mutations he still kicks ass on some real weirdos by just using incredible strength, skill and determination. That said I've always wanted an Atamantium skeleton, claws and physically regenerative powers like Mr. Wolverine. Someday I do hope to nab at least a purse snatcher so I'm really interested in what you've got to offer with this program ;)

Grew up with Superman as my comic book hero. Loved watching the Superman movies as well, with Christopher Reeve.

    July 18, 2011 at 11:22 pm

  • Berzinator

Hannibal King in Blade Trinity. Didn't love the movie or anything, and maybe you don't consider him a superhero, but Ryan Reynolds sure as hell looked like a super hero in that movie. My vote goes there, lol.

IRONMAN cuz he has his own kick ass song ,and stark is a rich bastard who gets the hot babes!

    July 18, 2011 at 11:15 pm

  • ronald

Batman 1st Ironman 2nd. Both are a testament to the human spirit. Both took the "super"human mind and became forces that not even their more"gifted" counterparts could stop. Batman always carries kryptonite in his utility belt (ponder that).

    July 18, 2011 at 11:04 pm

  • Keenan Smith

Batman! He is cool, intelligent, mysterious, martial artist master (ninja perhaps?), very well built, and....he also ridiculously rich and a sensation with ladies! Some may call him a "natural". Just about every mans dream when it comes to power over a city + being its protector. :)

with out a doubt it has to be silver surfer. he surfs though space, he is silver, and he can destroy entire worlds. that is the definition of B** A**.

    July 18, 2011 at 10:53 pm

  • Alejandro

DareDevil!! He is a hero that really relies on his physic. Yes, from the accident his hearing got into an over drive so he has like a sonar system, but all his abilities are from improving his body and being more athletic and more agile using the city as his playground. Basically it is like he is doing an extreme parkur all over the city.

In High School my buddies and I all had Superhero nicknames. My wedding is a little less than 4 months away and part of my gift to my Groomsmen are Superhero cufflinks. Each guy has a reason for his Superhero, because they all seem to have a superpower. I was always called Batman because I had no special gifts, only the desire and drive to be excellent through hard work. I'm sure we would all love to be natural Mesomorphs, but most of us are/were fat Endomorphs or skinny Ectomorphs. Our only chance is the hard work and discipline of a Superhero like Batman.

Tough one..... Superman/Batman in the comics.... Iron Man in the movies, RDJ makes that character !

I have been using your programs and stacking them with the Monavie RVL weightloss program and have had amazing results. I have gone from a size 16 to a size 8 in three months. I save all your articles and am ready to take this to the next level!! I have the bodystyle that can look hot if I stick to the right lifestyle. Thank you so much for your amazing programs!!

Mine would have to be batman. He represents that despite the injustices of civilization that would turn a normal person to a life of crime, man can turn such torment into immeasurable strength on levels one cannot even fathomed.

    July 18, 2011 at 10:35 pm

  • Ty

Keep up the great work! This is definitely some great stuff. And gotta be all about Superman - his secret identity is Clark Kent, his normal self is super and he has to hide it. He's the only superhero that has to do this.

    July 18, 2011 at 10:21 pm

  • Dave

Growing up I thought Spiderman was the best super hero. But looking at the body I want to build I have to go with Wolverine. I did Roman's Final Phase program and if this one delivers like that one it will not disappoint!

    July 18, 2011 at 10:13 pm

  • Jake Huddleston

Batman is definitely my favorite superhero...he is one of the few who never cheats. He created his own powers and worked his butt off to do what he did. No magical potions, advanced scientific procedures, or rare spider bites. Just pure old fashioned determination and utter awesomeness.

    July 18, 2011 at 10:11 pm

  • Mark

The program looks great. Can't wait to try it out. Chris Hemsworth looks awesome as Thor!

    July 18, 2011 at 9:56 pm

  • Rod

Easily it was Rocket Robin Hood! (growing up) But most outside of Canada haven't the slightest idea who he was (technically is 'will be' since he's in the 30th century from 1967 and this is WAY before Futurama) but even in the 80's RRH was big strong and oozed that muscular physique and had no problem trying to beat Little John at arm wrestling. But you probably want something closer what you've seen/known so I'll go with my favorite Lou Ferrigno as the Incredible Hulk

My dad. As fathers go, he was invincible. Everything I do as man and father, I try my best to measure up. Superman runs a distant second.

Can't wait to check out the full program, this looks like it would be a fun 12 weeks. My favorite hero is Wolverine, he kicks butt and asks questions later... and he gets all the girls.

Wolverine is my favorite- his quick healing with unbreakable bones combined with his attitude made for a kick ass hero

With a great workout comes great sexibility. (That may not be a word.) Looking forward to this one. Is it ok if I wear my Spider-man outfit for the first workout?

    July 18, 2011 at 9:21 pm

Batman is my favorite superhero because he is an ordinary man who does extraordinary things, that is the definition of a hero!

    July 18, 2011 at 9:19 pm

  • Todd

I really love your workout programs. I can not decide who is better Nate or you. It might be you, don't tell Nate I said that. Found something on T-Nation of a similar name by Thibs?????? Keep up the great work bro.

    July 18, 2011 at 9:15 pm

  • Harry Frashier

Conan the Barbarian, he was the King and he knew it. He lived his life the way he wanted. No body messed with the warrior King!

    July 18, 2011 at 9:12 pm

  • Dan

Aquaman- he's got a great muscular body and If I could live in water I would! This program sounds pretty cool- and who wouldn't want to strive to be just like their favorite Super Hero? The sample workout looks great and intense. I figure your SH is Captain Awesome - am I right?

    July 18, 2011 at 9:07 pm

  • Oscar

I would say conan. Talk about someone that built his body, the old fashion way, by fighting, and conquering!

    July 18, 2011 at 8:59 pm

Gotta love Iron Man....way cool!! Love those compond exercises...I can see superhero written all over them. Nice work!!

Batman--no question!! No super power, just a normal dude with crazy cool toyz!! I mean, c'mon--bat-mobile...bat cave? What do any of the others have?!?!?

    July 18, 2011 at 8:49 pm

  • Daryl

UNDERDOG!!! (& Roman) "Here I come to save the DAY!" Just watch him transform into a perfect muscle dog...sorry for any youngsters out there who never had an opportunity to see this fantastic series!

    July 18, 2011 at 8:47 pm

  • Warren

Batman of course!..NO superpower at all. He proves that we can get the body and strength with the motivation to train hard at something.

    July 18, 2011 at 8:44 pm

  • Marie

Definitely Cat Woman. I wanna be a super hero!

    July 18, 2011 at 8:42 pm

  • Bacilio Ruiz

This is a tough question, but number one I'm so stoked and getting this for sure! Now, I think it might have to be Bruce Wayne as Batman! He has crazy money, a bat cave, sweet vehicles, and has zero super powers! He even saves Superman and is in the Justice League. He even has sick villains to fight like joker, two face, penguin, and bane!

    July 18, 2011 at 8:41 pm

  • Juan Martinez

This looks great Roman! I'm digging the compound movements!

    July 18, 2011 at 8:40 pm

  • Jonathan

I would have to say Spider Man was my favorite super hero. I always admired his agility and athleticisim but at the same time, he was muscular, not sinewy, but had a very formidable physique. No, he wasn't superman and couldn't do it all, but man, he was creative and had the humor to go with it. Add the fact that he was smart enough to invent the web shooter and strong enough to grab the twine in mid air and swing on it, you've got the ultimate super hero.

    July 18, 2011 at 8:39 pm

  • Darren

My favorite has always been superman. He was always an outsider trying to fit in, but no matter what used his powers to savr the world...well except for part ll and lll but he always come back! Plus he wore hishis Indies on the outside and still rocked!

    July 18, 2011 at 8:38 pm

  • Rafael

    Awesome John....can't wait!!!

    July 18, 2011 at 8:37 pm

  • Doug

BATMAN for sure. He's human, not superhman or an alien. He's totally trained to physical perfection and conditioning. His will power is practically superhuman, and he has the coolest gadgets! If I had to go with a superhuman... Well I guess Dr. Manhattan from WATCHMEN. Simply put, the guy that can walk across the surface of the sun pretty much trumps everybody....

    July 18, 2011 at 8:35 pm

  • Steve

Hercules, played by Steve Reeves in the 50's & 60's. He was one of the original body builders turned actor and had the ultimate, athletic body. I know he's way before your time, but google him.

  • Tamara Adie

First of all - this program looks awesome, and I hope it can do for me, what I'm hoping it will. Second of all - I don't know if you'd consider him a superhero, but I definitely would. Now I'm not talking the movie version of The Hulk, I'm talking about the Bill Bixby, 1970's version of The Hulk. He's not only massive in muscle size and strength, but he's unbelievably tall as well. His fierce stature and face, (not to mention his green colored skin), demand attention. He moves swiftly and easily across buildings and through tunnels, and manages to take out anyone that comes in his way. Let's not forget that although he can destroy anyone he so choose, he's also a good guy at heart. His transformation is merely a result of anger brought on by some new jerk in every episode. Plus, like any true SuperHero, he disguises himself very well. No one ever expects that Bill Bixby is the huge Hulk. Best super hero? I think so.

    July 18, 2011 at 8:23 pm

@Roman "Eventually, I became a pretty boy with many hot girlfriends, so now I at least understand cyc a bit more." lol, that's awesome.

Aquaman. I taught Scuba and love the ocean world. Strength, ability and gills! What more could you want short of a mermaid?

The Hulk. The madder the Hulk gets the stronger the Hulk gets!

It was Spider Man growing up.... but I am not sure why to be honest. After reading this though, it is Black Widow! She's HOT!

Superman, because he's almost indestructible. As for female, she's not really a superhero, but Sarah Conner in Terminater 2! She's the reason I started weightlifting!

    July 18, 2011 at 7:45 pm

  • Matt Cetta

I'm going with Batman. I like that he doesn't have any special powers. He trained crazy hard, and he became AWESOME!

    July 18, 2011 at 7:45 pm

Deadpool - He's just a slick talking bad ass.

    July 18, 2011 at 7:38 pm

  • BIG AL

I like wolverine because of his abilities to endure any battle he gets into. He jumps high and far, he moves fast, and reacts to his opponents with the speed of lightning pretty much.

    July 18, 2011 at 7:36 pm

  • Iceman

    Chuck Norris, nuff said.

    July 18, 2011 at 7:35 pm

  • Miguel

The Punisher a.k.a. Frank Castle... the dude has no super/mutant powers, no radioactive spider bite. Not even a freaking batmobile. He's just a man who happens to be pissed, ripped and full of testosterone. "In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law. To pursue... natural justice. This is not vengeance. Revenge is not a valid motive, it's an emotional response. No. Not vengeance. Punishment." Word, Punisher.

My favorite super hero is captain underpants. What awesome-er of a life could you have but to be a nasty old principal, and turn into a SUPER hero who runs around in his underwear? AND, people obviously love his fucking physique, or else they wouldn't let him run around in his tighty whities, which, by the way, makes him all the manlier.

    July 18, 2011 at 7:25 pm

  • Josh

Lion-O, Lord of the Thundercats! Hoooo! Excited about the program; can't wait to give it a go!

I'm going with Superman, he's the prettiest! ;-)

    July 18, 2011 at 7:21 pm

I like batman. Seeing him take care of crime in gotham is awesome. I am ready to build a super hero body. I've been fat and overweight too long!

    July 18, 2011 at 7:18 pm

  • Dave

    Wolverine. Big, powerful and cut

    July 18, 2011 at 7:18 pm

  • Dustie

I think Hercules is one of the better superheros. (even though he's not considered one and he has the 1/2 god thing going for him). But he was kind, helpful, loyal friend, and he didnt let his powers or 1/2 godness turn him into a jerk.

    July 18, 2011 at 7:16 pm

  • Jake

wolverine, hes a huge badass and kicks tons of ass. he also has morals and doesn't just mindlessly kill. lastly he gets all the chicks, as seen in the pic above.

    July 18, 2011 at 7:07 pm

  • Amy

Superman has been my favorite ever since I was little! I wish I could look like pretty much any female superhero!

    July 18, 2011 at 7:06 pm

  • Daniel Carter

Superman. Hands down the most powerful and most discerning of the super heroes. I have nothing against the others, Batman is awesome, but I think I am more like Superman than any other super hero. And, the fact that Superman was my call sign in the military has nothing to do with it.

My favorite superhero would be Batman because he is human so we all can aspire to be like that without any extra stuff. We all still have to do the work.

When you find yourself in danger, when you're threatened by a stranger, when it looks like you will take a lickin' (puk, puk, puk) There is someone waiting who will hurry up and rescue you, just call for Super Chicken(buk, ack!)

    July 18, 2011 at 6:55 pm

Batman. He's bad ass without any super powers. That's it. Just a specimen and a character.

    July 18, 2011 at 6:51 pm

  • laura

I dont know if this character is considered a superhero, but in my eyes this person has always portrayed the most fierce, sexy, street smart, ass-kicking female on the planet!! .....my girl, Pam Grier as Jackie Brown!! It was awesome to me to watch one of a very few leading black females on screen who could be a badass and be beautiful at the same time. And it wasnt like she had to carry a gun all the time. Her appeal was all in her attitude. She demanded respect from the moment you saw her walk, her talk, her no nonsense approach....She was a bonafide huslta!!, which is what made her so dope! Only female I saw who could rock a fro and save the day all while wearing something totally fierce! In the words of Jackie Brown: Shut your raggedy-ass up, and sit the fuck down!

All these programs are great, but it seems for the most part they are geared towards people who are already in decent shape or physically/biomechanically sound. I have had 10 knee and hip surgeries so I'm unable to do exercises like hack or back squats so does the program offer alternatives

    July 18, 2011 at 6:41 pm

  • Andrea

It is She-Ra for me...Princess of Power!!!!!!!!!!!

    July 18, 2011 at 6:36 pm

  • mika

My favorite superhero is Superman since he is extremely fast, bulletproof, super hearing, x-ray vision, heat vision, super vision, super breath and extraordinary strength. So basically there isn't any super hero known that can beat him. On top of all that he can blend in with people without being noticed.

    July 18, 2011 at 6:32 pm

  • Andrew

The Flash for sure, because anyone 'more powerful' than the Flash is over powered and not fun. The Flash doesn't have the most ownage ability but he definitely can be a big force to deal with and I like his attitude more than the other super heroes.

    July 18, 2011 at 6:29 pm

  • Danh Doan

Mine has to be spiderman. he's got a sweet outfit, spiders are pretty awesome, and he may not be the biggest like Thor, but he's agile and has dexterity.

    July 18, 2011 at 6:25 pm

  • Carlos

Hey Roman, my favorite super-hero would be Batman! He has a great physique, is brave, calm, serious, and is always helping others out and protecting them. This looks like a really great program. Take care!

    July 18, 2011 at 6:20 pm

  • Erik

My favorite is Gambit, as he tends to charge into danger for the benefit of the team. I'm surprised you didn't pick Deadpool, you know, the Merc with the Mouth.

    July 18, 2011 at 6:12 pm

  • Zlatan

My favorite superhero is Mr. Fantastic because he can stretch any part of his body however he wants, and that has got to be sweet with the ladies!!!!!!

    July 18, 2011 at 6:10 pm

  • Kara

Definitely Wolverine :) He's the bad-boy type Superhero. Love that.

    July 18, 2011 at 6:10 pm

  • Lashanda

I love Strom from X-Men and Xena. Ok, Xena may not be a real superhero, but any woman who kick a** and takes names, who embodies the persona of independence, courageousness, and kindness ROCKs. Although to be fair, real superheros are Moms! Not to be corny, im just speaking the truth.. (PS I am not a mommy) Stay active and funny Roman, you keep me on my toes! thanks..

    July 18, 2011 at 6:06 pm

  • Griffin

My favorite is He-Man. Just finishing up another round of final phase fat lose and looking for another program to try. Your program is available just in time.

    July 18, 2011 at 6:05 pm

  • Tonia

I would have to say Wolverine. Not only does he have a hot body, but he's an Aussie like me. =) Oh, and I have always admired Steven Seagal, especially in his younger days. How intense is this routine? eg: is it adaptable for a person with a lower back injury??

    July 18, 2011 at 6:05 pm

  • Amie

Definitely Batman -- because he's relatable :-) No crazy 'super powers'...just human bad-assery and ingenuity

    July 18, 2011 at 6:02 pm

  • Adam

My favorite super hero is the Black Mamba. His alter ego that many people know him by is Kobe Bryant. He is widely accepted as the best player in the game (although admittedly he has lost a step) and one of the best of all time, yet he still works harder than anyone else in the NBA. He's a true inspiration for anyone trying to make excuses about why they're not in the best shape of their lives. Let's just forget about that whole Denver thing though, okay?

    July 18, 2011 at 6:02 pm

  • Michael

Favourite superhero? Man that's a tough one. Does one go with Batmans' keen intelligence, Spidermans' sense of humour (and excellent choice in women), or Blades' pure kick assery? If I could combine the best of all three I think I'd have my ultimate superhero.

    July 18, 2011 at 6:01 pm

  • mark

i had a number of favourites but my number 1 superhero was Thor. I loved the whole nordic and viking mythlogy thing and Thor was rugged and "savage" as they come. A close second was the ghost who walked, Phantom. He was an individual and stood up for justice and for the weak.

    July 18, 2011 at 5:57 pm

  • Richard Sima

My favorite Superhero is Batman. He has no special powers or mutated genes to make him more than a man. He is a regular guy like anyone else who happens to work hard to stay in tip top fighting condition and is supported by an incredible array of gadgets that just make him an overall interesting character.

    July 18, 2011 at 5:54 pm

  • Stacey

Definitely Superman. Every woman would love to have her man seem average.... and then wow...now thats MY MAN!!! ;-) He really can save the world!

What a challenge. Looking forward to joining the solid work. Let you know how I get on with the girls!

This is EXACTLY the type of look I've been trying to achieve for years but have never quite made it. I can't wait to try out The Super Hero Workout and get over the hump! My favorite super hero is The Flash because he's a smart ass.

    July 18, 2011 at 5:51 pm

  • Cat

Wolverine is my favorite super hero because he is the anti-super hero. He does things his own way, rules are more or less guidelines to him. However underneath all the bravado, the rage, mutant powers, those muscles :), Wolverine is all heart.

I got the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet, with your workout plan.... and, the workouts you suggested for that plan were just physically impossible for me to do ( even with 10 and 20 lb dumbbells). I did the best that I could and the Plan did kinda, sorta work as i lost 12 lbs, and about 3" around my waist. Looking at your partial workout, I know for a dead bang certainty that I would never be able to do it... not enough rest periods. But, I do like the idea of a structured workout, since I never seem to do them on my own. I just wish yours were more doable for me.

I would have to say Johnny Blaze from fantastic 4 he can fly says flame on and his whole body is 1 big fireball

    July 18, 2011 at 5:48 pm

  • Adrian

Ghost rider, his spirit of vengeance was always an inspiration as it sums up the whole good vs evil deal while still admitting that sometimes the two are intertwined. As I got older and pulled my head out of my own self rightous arse for long enough to loose the anger I still find ghost riders uncompromising fight against assholes to be a worthy cause that more of us should embrace (obviously with a little less bloodshed and murder)

Wonder Woman...Because she's a badass Amazon with a uniquely American style and an invisible jet that serves no real purpose when you're endowed with the ability of flight from the Gods.

Looks awesome Roman, I love these type of workouts or complexes. Tough, but great workouts. Keep up the good work

This program looks awesome. I'm currently more of a spiderman (nothin wrong with Peter Parker) but would love to become a Thor.

    July 18, 2011 at 5:38 pm

  • Todd

Batman is by-far my favorite SUPER HERO. Why, you ask? Because the lad needs no super powers (he also drinks green sludge for breakfast a la Batman Begins). He's smart, cut, and jumps off of buildings because he can. Money tends to make people a little nutty. Guy has awesome cars too.

  • Halldor Magnusson

I like Bruce Banner, Bruce Wayne but most of all I like Bruce Lee! Didn't wear shorts but could sure kick some... oh yeah, PG-13 :) Well, he had great physique and looked as cool as a human being can be.

  • Antonio Carlos Vieira Filho

My favorite Hero is "Wolverine"... Hugh Jackman have this ability to make the 2 sides of his character coexist in perfect harmony. He is "evil" when he need to be and can be "sweet" when the moment asks... Jon, if you could anchieve this goal (turning regular persons in super heroes - in the physical aspect of corse), YOU will become my personal Super Hero.I'm already your fan, but what you promissing is a little crazy!!But as people call me crazy all the time, I hope you chose me as your "Guinea Pig".I'll do everything I can to not let you down. Your friend and fan, Antonio.

My superhero is my dad. No matter what he's always been there and kept us safe from harm. Unfortunately heblost his last fight against evil cancer. He was a very athletic man and I'd love to look just like him.

    July 18, 2011 at 5:30 pm

  • Patty

My favorite super hero (or I guess villian) is Catwoman...not just any Catwoman but Julie Newmar from the Batman TV series --- strong, sexy, sassy and sinister all wrapped up into one person!

    July 18, 2011 at 5:26 pm

  • prozetti

my super hero is anyone who is accepted into the U.S NAVY SEALS. NOW, THAT'S TOUGHNESS PERSONIFIED!

I am not sure if Bruce Lee counts as a super hero but he sure could kick some... oh yea, PG-13, right :) He had great physique and was just as cool as a human being can hope to be.

my favorite superhero is Wolverine! has great arms, great power and ofcourse great shape!! amazing shouelderss!!

    July 18, 2011 at 5:20 pm

  • Chris

My favorite superhero was Thor followed closely by Captain America. I always liked thor because of the relation to Scadanavian mythology and my Scandanavian roots. And the hammer was pretty cool, too. Captain America was just awesome. I also liked the crime fighter radio show, The Shadow. When I was in middle shool, we used to listen to cassettes of old radio broadcasts, and The Shadow was the best one.

    July 18, 2011 at 5:15 pm

  • Stu

Rhett, I love that someone on here also loves Code Geass! And it'd be awesome to look like Hemsworth in that picture up top. But I still say the best would be Superman. Not like in the film, where he's all lean, but the REAL superman of the comics. Well, that or Goku, haha.

    July 18, 2011 at 5:15 pm

  • MitchL

Lara Croft - she can hold her own with any of the Super Hero's - she's one tough cookie! With a bod like that she can take on the world :)

I really cant decide which superhero to chose coz I like them all, especialy Superman , but as a kid ......... (ok im lying, im 31 and still watching all his movies like the first time) i like Steven Segal very much :) Someone will say he is not a superhero....... are u sure? He is always on a good side, honest and righteous, cant bribe him and most important that makes him no different from superheroes you cant kill him :) So my vote is for Steven Segal :)

    July 18, 2011 at 5:08 pm

Like the Hulk TV show as Lou Ferrigno was a beast in that one! The movie was pretty good also.

    July 18, 2011 at 5:03 pm

  • Drew

As a kid, my favorite comics were Fantastic Four, X-Men, Spiderman, Captain America, and the Avengers. My personal favorite of all of them was Wolverine. He always ended up doing the right thing, yet had an edge to him. I related to that. Plus the fact that never could get what he really wanted, but didn't let that stop him from living his life and doing the best he could for his team. I found that attitude inspirational. Despite his inner anger and unhappiness, he always tried to prop up the other X-men and would do anything for them. Not to mention the ultra cool claws and the ability to recover from basically anything, of course! ;D

    July 18, 2011 at 5:02 pm

  • Trevor Rackley

My superhero would be Superman. By day a good looking guy who writes for a newspaper. Then when necessary a super cool hero who is there for everyone. As any real hero there's always a weakness but that is hidden as best possible. So in reality we all want to be heroes and we all want that body that goes with it, but we all have a weakness as well. Just like Superman.

Would be interesting to see how this compares to my current workout routine. Also, what's the diet recommendations for a routine like this?

Defineately Wonder Woman..great curves, strong & sexy.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:59 pm

  • Jacob S

By the way my favorite Superhero is Wolverine, he is a bad ass!

    July 18, 2011 at 4:58 pm

  • Mimi

Batman, hands down! I guess I love the instrinsic darkness of his story -- and the glaring point that his antics probably attract a lot of the freaks to Gotham. He's got angsty moments but they're earned...unlike Spidey.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:58 pm

  • Peter

Spiderman is always my favorite, he is strong, smart, can climb walls and run, jump and sling webs! He's a good guy, and tries to always do the right thing. Cool costume, cute girlfriends! And, we share a first name!

    July 18, 2011 at 4:57 pm

  • Arlow

My favorite superhero is wolverine; and I should win/get a free copy of this program so I can insure (and report honestly and publicly) that you didn't rip off Christian from T-Mag... Who has a workout structured and titled exactly the same as this workout.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:57 pm

I just love using the RFS workouts for my Sniper Squad's PT. They all love it so I'd like to keep it going with some new stuff.

I really need to win this. Have you seen the way I look? Well, I have and it aint pretty.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:56 pm

  • Brian

My favorite superhero's would have to be Batman, Spiderman, Captain America, and Static. I like Batman because he is a normal guy and he does what he does through training. Captain America is someone who is at the pinnacle of a human's ability. Spiderman has strength, speed, and agility at his disposal. And Static, well I just like his electromagnetism powers.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:55 pm

  • Jon

Batman is my favorite because he used a terrible situation(death of parents) to create a positive outcome. Also he has no super powers other than his mind, body and gadgets, but he able to hold his own against anyone.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:53 pm

  • Joe

For me...since I'm a black man....I would have to say Green Lantern-John Stewart from Justice League. I love the broad shoulder, wide back, and small waist line look. His look encourage to do a lot more Pull ups. Just my opinion.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:52 pm

  • Denise

I love Wonder Woman. She is strong and smokin' in that costume.....

    July 18, 2011 at 4:52 pm

  • Beverly

My favorite superhero as a child was Batman. Sure, Superman was cool, but he wasn't human. These days it's Wolverine, because Hugh Jackman cleaned up HOT--and I know of the brutal workouts he did to get that way.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:52 pm

  • Butch Chadwick

My favorite Superhero is my youngest brother Jimmy. In1994 after being voted athelete of the year in his High School and giving up scholarships to play lacrosse and/or football he was involved in a serious car accident where he suffered traumatic brain injury. He has been through over 30 surgeries 22 of them life threating, he has a very difficult time speaking, lost the use of his right arm and right leg and lost his ability to read. he however has never given up, continues to fight and always has a huge smile on his face. He is and will always be my hero!

    July 18, 2011 at 4:51 pm

  • Carmen

Hands down to Catwoman: she is hot, she is sassy and gritty, and of course, she knows how to handle the bad boys with that badass whip. Meow!!!

    July 18, 2011 at 4:50 pm

  • Rhett

Lelouch Lamperouge from Code Geass. It's not what you are, it's how (fabulously) you present yourself. And yes, the universe around him is the villain: it insists his attempts to free humanity or draw attention to its vices are morally warped. BS! People need to look into what they perceive as real and natural— they're often misguided.

Hey Roman, My Fav If Fat Man, this dude melts away ugly, unwanted, stubborn body fat. look forward to checking out your new program.

Actually, SHW is 12 weeks as written (with some edits to make it longer!)

    July 18, 2011 at 4:45 pm

  • Eddie

Gotta say Batman, he is able to kick ass without any freak accidents or any supernatural powers, just through pure hard work and motivation.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:43 pm

  • Laura DeMirjyn

As a child I loved Wonder Woman for her strength and curvy figure and Kato for his knowledge and cunning. When I got older my favorites changed to Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). What can I say? Bulging biceps, tight abs, sexy accent and sexy face (almost drooling here...)! LOL!! My favorite female superhero is Selene in Underworld (Kate Beckinsdale). She is strong, and lean, not large and bulky with an athletic grace that is amazing! I would love to have her body after I had my three boys! I think that Roman is the perfect man to help me achieve my Superhero body that goes well with my Super Mom mask I put on every day!!

    July 18, 2011 at 4:42 pm

  • kennknee

I wouldn't mind looking like Chris Hemsworth before or after, lol. I do want to know how to get jacked though. Please, Roman, make me the free recipient!

    July 18, 2011 at 4:42 pm

  • Seth

if i can only pick one i'd have to say wolverine, even way before hugh jackman rocked his character in the movies, but even more so since. he's not as invincible as superman (who is as a result somewhat less interesting, sad but true). but he's an absolute beast and so unstoppable!

    July 18, 2011 at 4:42 pm

  • Mike

I'd have to say Ironman. I had always been interested in super heroes, but the first Ironman movie was what really got me interested in the whole thing, and I've been following since then.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:38 pm

  • RJ

My favourite superhero is the Incredible Hulk! Not only is Hulk totally unbeatable, he's also a total badass and super strong! Hulk is also one of the most misunderstood superheroes and I think that is a very interesting quality to the story. He just wants to be left alone :( While not the first superhero I took a liking to, Hulk always stood out to me and became my favourite one once I got to learn more about him. I feel like in some aspects I can relate to Hulk (not split from Bruce Banner), because I'm a pretty big dude (6'6'') and it always surprises people at how smart I am. Plus I feel there is no better superhero to aspire to when you are going in to the gym and just want to let go of everything and rage out on the weights!

    July 18, 2011 at 4:37 pm

  • Danielle

It's kind of hard to choose, but I'd probably have to say Wolverine. The guy can regenerate...has claws...and can smell anything from a mile away. What a beast...literally.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:37 pm

  • Jean

I was in decent shape, then I developed severe hip arthritis - I've had to be creative find things I can do. Finally getting a hip replacement - after that I'm going to get the kind of body I want to live in!

    July 18, 2011 at 4:36 pm

  • Rob

Mine would have to be Luke Cage! Dude was genetic freak and didnt have any special weapons but had pure strength!

    July 18, 2011 at 4:35 pm

  • Joseph SooHoo Jr

My favorite super hero,,,Has to be hands down my 2 year old neice Sofia Grace. Diagnosed with leaukemia last year in November and as of present fighting and winning! She's my inspiration for being healthy and to try workouts like yours to get me there so I can watch her become a success story and to have a daughter just like her. Thanx John, YOU THE MAN!!! P.S. - Final Phase Abs...sigh...my core still continues to hurts and i've done it 3 times around completely...LOL

Very cool. Since most of your workouts are 6-week programs, I'll do the full rotation twice for 12 weeks of workout-goodness. That means every 3 months I need you to publish a new workout! -jason

    July 18, 2011 at 4:34 pm

  • Tom M

I have to go for the self-professed good-boy-turned-monster Incredible Hulk. Why? Because he i s incredible, and could be a Super Hero if domesticated and scaled down appropriately! Or maybe not?!?

    July 18, 2011 at 4:33 pm

  • jonathan Burgess

hey Roman, cool blog yet again, superhero time huh..ok does the bionic man count?? coz you have the power to rebuild us!!! just hopefully a little less than 6 million dollars Jb

    July 18, 2011 at 4:31 pm

  • Callum

Silver Surfer is the guy. Hopefully this workout program will also teach me how to surfly (surf+fly=surfly)

    July 18, 2011 at 4:29 pm

  • Johnny

Bruce Lee was and is still my super hero. Not only was he the avenger of all who were wronged & hurt by bullies but he would show the sensitvities of a shy & humble man amongst the throngs of people especially women & children. His wisdom when sharing his thoughts on martial arts also transended into every day life. Less we forget his workouts were second to none in real life..

    July 18, 2011 at 4:28 pm

  • Dale

My favorite superhero is Batman. Easily portrays playboy by day and superhero by night. Lots of strength without a lot of bulk and not an ounce of fat. It is all natural and trained skills, no supernatural events involved.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:24 pm

  • Jim

Tough one. Toss up between Batman and Spiderman. Or Roman.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:23 pm

  • Shanna

You gotta love Superman. He's always trying to do the right thing and see the best in people. I guess he's just a constant reminder to me to be a better person and to not make snap judgements. To try to find something good in everything around me.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:21 pm

  • Evan

If I could put my head on Thor's body, I and my wife may be the happiest people on earth. Brilliant idea with the Superhero theme, Roman!

    July 18, 2011 at 4:18 pm

  • Matthew

The incredible hulk-the baddest good guy

    July 18, 2011 at 4:18 pm

Batman. The Dark Knight was a great movie.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:18 pm

  • Laura DeMirjyn

As a child I loved wonder woman and Kato. Wonderwoman for her amazing curves, strength and confidence and Kato for his cunning and whit! As an adult, I now love Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) he almost makes me drool! lol! Either in a dress shirt or none at all his body rocks! Female super hero is now Underworld - Selene (Kate Beckinsdale) is strong, lean and sexy! I would love to be in her shape now after having 3 kids!

    July 18, 2011 at 4:17 pm

Maybe it's the purple tights, but I've always liked The Phantom. The movie with Billy Zane is great as well.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:16 pm

  • Tina

    What can I say...Underdog...

    July 18, 2011 at 4:15 pm

  • Danavir

My favorite superhero's have always been batman, superman, and spiderman, but if I had to pick one, I would pick batman (partly influenced by new movies). Batman is just a bad ass. He doesn't have powers but kicks ass like if there was no tomorrow. He has that dark and mysterious aura around him. He's not like a spiderman or superman where they are always good. Sure, their awesome and I love them but Batman is just DIFFERENT.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:15 pm

  • Evan

Always played Thor when we were kids. But my hair isn't blonde anymore. Maybe IronMan, although that's more the suit than the man. I'm just a techy geek though.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:14 pm

  • Greg

I'd say Spiderman because of his vulnerability and "humanity". He struggled with issues and was not impervious to pain physically or psychologically. Moreover, DESPITE his athletic prowess, Spidey is cerebral and uses his brain to solve dilemmas NOT simply his brawn.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:13 pm

  • Brian

Grew up reading Thor. He was never afraid to stand up for what was right,no matter the consequences, but also liked to have some fun. And, yeah, the hammer is badass, but the helmet is pretty cool too!

    July 18, 2011 at 4:13 pm

  • Josh Myers

The Tick, because who wouldn't want to be 7 foot tall, ripped, and nigh-invulnerable? Spooooooooon!

    July 18, 2011 at 4:12 pm

  • Phoenix

My favorite superhero has to be NYC native John Romaniello, "the hero maker" he can take someone average from Clark Kent to Superman, or Bruce Banner to Hulk.. no more getting sand kicked in your face on the beach with a RFS routine... John is as whitty as Jack Lemmon as the Joker and has style like Billionaire Bruce Wayne and is the Professor X of Fitness. All his workouts are next are next level, he could train the Fantastic Four and make them more flexible, faster and stronger ... So if your a Millionaire Mogel, Wall Street Power Suit, Techy Extraodinaire, Super Athelete or simple Joe next door RFS is my pick if you want to add some extra Hero to your workout strategy....

    July 18, 2011 at 4:11 pm

Some weeks ago I just got the evidence you were talking about, we were helping at a construction site, they mostly wanted guys to help but there were some girls as well (I'm in the girls' camp btw), and at the end they said I had been working like two guys :D It felt great, even knowing that all the guys were office rats it was great to see that I could work even harder than they (we were carrying trees, it was fun, especially picking them up at the end and throwing them among the others, it was like the best workout I've ever had).

    July 18, 2011 at 4:10 pm

  • Dave

Ironman - He uses his brain to maximise his brawn. Definitely a man after your own heart, Roman!

    July 18, 2011 at 4:10 pm

Capt America of course. I think on some level that I joined the military becuase of him.

lol! I have always been partial to the Hulk. but then again, I have anger issues, so really, whatta I know?

    July 18, 2011 at 4:07 pm

  • Slade Jones

Superman. The guy is a flat out baller who can fly.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:07 pm

  • John Romaniello

I first became exposed to Cyclops at a cynical time in my life (you know...10 years old). Cyclops just seemed like a pretty boy with an optic blast and a hot girlfriend. I hated him. Because, well, I hated pretty boys with hot girlfriends. It wasn't until Jean Grey died that I started like his character. Eventually, I became a pretty boy with many hot girlfriends, so now I at least understand cyc a bit more.

I want to be super. That is all.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:06 pm

While not technically steroids, the soldier serum is close enough. That said, I'd just make the point that Cap's strength far exceeds Batman

    July 18, 2011 at 4:05 pm

  • Giovanni

Batman! Without supernatural ability, he is able to do the same thing other supernatural heroes do. He's the perfect motivation for us to work out harder!

    July 18, 2011 at 4:04 pm

  • Julia

I watched Terminator 2 last night and Linda Hamilton may not be a super hero but her body in that movie is super hero worthy and of course, when the movie came out, that's all everyone was talking about!

    July 18, 2011 at 4:04 pm

  • deb coombs

Superman - he can do it all. His only weekness Cryptonite - kind of like my weakness for sweets. Just gotta say no!

    July 18, 2011 at 4:04 pm

  • John Romaniello

Disagree. Spiderman is probably the most relatable of all characters, because he always seems completely human in his decisions.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:04 pm

  • Rik

Batman- represents the pinnacle of human performance (not like Captain America who, despite being awesome and essentially Batman with a frisbee, is on steroids) and has kicked everyone's ass despite being only human.

    July 18, 2011 at 4:03 pm

  • SHIB

Superman !!..best greek god Achilles ... anyone who said Spiderman should be thrown out immediately

    July 18, 2011 at 4:02 pm

I appreciate the humanity and sheer strength of Spiderman yet always leaned toward the angst and justice sense of Silversurfer.

Fave superhero is wolverine. Both from the xmen comics and also the new line of movies with Hugh JACKED-man!

Hi Roman, My all time favorite superhero is Superman. More powerful than a locomotive, faster than a speeding bullet, able leap tall buildings in a single bound. Need I say more?

    July 18, 2011 at 4:02 pm

  • John Romaniello

Fo' sho. Tony Stark is definitely pimp status.

Batman. If I can't be a superhero, I think I'd like to be a billionaire badass. He's both.

    July 18, 2011 at 3:58 pm

My fav is Spider-Man in the black Symbiote costume. An awesome super hero made awesomer!

Powdered toast man. Because he is a beast. On a serious note, my favorite superhero would be The Hulk. He likes to smash things.

    July 18, 2011 at 3:51 pm

  • Andrew

My favourite superhero as a child was either SuperTed or... Captain Planet! I had no idea how cheesy the latter was, of course, until I got a bit older! Then in my teens it was the Silver Surfer because he was just... Cool. But my ALL TIME FAVOURITE is definitely Gambler from X-Men. Dude was just frickin' sweet.

    July 18, 2011 at 3:51 pm

  • jim

I like Kato (played by Bruce Lee). He stayed in the background and kicked butt whenever needed.

    July 18, 2011 at 3:50 pm

  • Marc Colon

Can't wait to get started on this one! Batman's my favorite because he's just a normal Guy and in the actual comics he's pretty much an a$$hole. Haha. Thanks Roman for the final phase workout. I finally have a 6 pack and celebrating my 40th bday this week people can't believe it. I really appreciate your workouts and will be getting this one too. Thanks from Vegas...

Gotta be Batman. Besides all the obvious, at one point, he had to put up with a douchebag (robin), just like the rest of us have to.

Thor. As a kid I always liked the Thor comics, maybe it was just the hammer. Nah, gotta be the helmet.

Punisher is the only real superhero. Other superheroes are too "perfect." The Punisher was all about revenge. Having flaws makes characters more 3D.

Deadpool. Yeah, he's more of an anti-hero than a hero but he's a total bad-ass. Combine Wolverine's healing factor with katanas, uzis, bazookas, teleportation, utter insanity and the sharpest wit in comics and that's 'Pool. He's also one of the few not based in NYC (San Fran. Also, X-Men are based out of Boston).

My favourite super hero has to be Superman. Every other superhero is just a normal guy or girl who has to put a mask on to be something special whereas Superman has to put a 'mask' on to to hide his true greatness. I love the way that Superman has to become the shy, slow, clumsy and unimpressive being that is Clark Kent and how the perceived passiveness of Clark Kent allows Superman to act when necessary without suspicion. Superman is by FAR the best superhero ever.

You should check out Punisher/Batman: Deadly Knights. It's a crossover, and a good one. it really reveals where the line is with Batman. Long story short, Batman and the Punisher team up and eventually go after the Joker. Punisher has a gun to his head and is about to kill him, Batman intervenes. He just won't let it go down. The Joker laughs maniacally at the entire situation, and gets away. The thrust is, the Punisher kills criminals, Batman just scares them. I personally think it's the authors way of sort of cluing you in on the fact that Batman sort of "likes" the entire thing...he won't ever let it end, because there is not way to end it. The ironic thing is, months after, the Joker kills several people and beats Robin to death with a crowbar. Shoulda' let the Punisher do his thing, Bats.

My favorite has always been Batman because of the mystery and acceptance by the public that he was a crime fighter. And because he has no super powers and kind of just takes crime fighting into his own hands. Not to mention his bad ass ride!

Mine is iron man from comics to the new movie's. He's awesome! Smart, suave, and built. I'd like to be him even without the suit! Can't wait to get this workout so I can get started.

Cat Woman is probably one of my favorites (or at least more recent adaptations). To me, she's what Batman could have become if he didn't have the benefits of growing up the way he did. She's an ambiguous character, but that's why we can connect with her.

Great post. I'd have to say Batman since he's a normal guy that relies on intellect, good shape and money to counteract crime. Something be said about not relying on fantasy powers; though Batman's lifestyle is complete fantasy as well, but closer to reality than hoping to one day turn into the Hulk or Spiderman.

Very interesting -- I love this answer. Of course, that's a slipperly slope. Hitler also thought what he was doing was right. And, in a lot of ways, he's similar--comic authors make the parallel very clear. Both thought they were the leaders of a master race, etc. That's what makes the irony of Erik Lensher/Magneto having been in a concentration camp so completely profound. Still, I like your answer =)

The Punisher, for a lot of the same reasons as the Batman backers - but the Punisher pushed it to the next level with regard to his revenge for the deaths of his family. You can see that the Punisher was psychologically pushed over the edge by what happened to his family - and its in a way that I think any husband/father can relate to in the abstract. No powers; just guile, intestinal fortitude, and a side dish of crazy.

Superman! He was the very first true hero I saw when I was a kid. His body was great ( not in a gay mode) and I decided I wanted to be Superman ( except I'd wear my underwear IN the pants). Now I will have the chance to become SuperVince . Big lol for me.

Batman- The peak of human physical condition. Big AND functional (ass kicking). He is so well conditioned (cardio, heavy lifting and flexible) that he can go toe to toe with super powered villains even though he is only human.

Oh hellz yes! This will be awesome. I'm gonna have to go with Batman. I like the fact that he's more or less a normal guy (albeit an extremely, filthy-friggin'-rich normal guy) but still manages to completely kick ass. This kinda makes his image attainable to an extent, as opposed to other superheroes. That's my .02! ;)

I have done your complex workouts in the past and what a phenom way to still build strength/power while burning a ton of cals through the cardio of it. Fav superhero has to be Batman. What other superhero has a socialite public persona with a do-gooders appearance while a dark and mysterious persona on the superhero side with some kick-A gadgets, cars and bikes! Thanks bru!

Nice Roman! Super pumped to give your program a shot and get your name out there even further. Favorite super hero: Batman. I submit that Batman isn't just a hero, but is in fact super - a moniker often reserved for those only with actual powers. It's disappointing that he isn't given the credit he deserves; being able to defeat the entire Justice League (a la "Tower of Babel") is something I consider super and not a feat all superheroes can do. Willpower, intelligence, and perseverance at that level is pretty super to me.
